Module 3 Skype 29th September

Tonight I joined in on a module three focused discussion group. I found it really enlightening listening to the current module 3 students whilst studying module 2 myself.
A prominent theme in their data collection was ensuring that you don't create leading questions or assumptions in order to prove a perspective. This leads back to the questioning of one's own assumptions which we looked at last week.
It has also been intriguing listening to ways in which their methods have had to be adapted due to Covid. How has this effected their results? Some students spoke about how the use of remote interviews via Skype has resulted in them reaching out to practitioners in the wider community instead of face to face interviews with work collegues and friends in their own professional network. This has resulted in more varied perspectives and interesting data.
The topic of ethics was also linked to the current pandemic. The ethical consideration of knowing your own privilege regarding covid. If it hasn't effected your practice be aware that those you are interviewing may have had a very different experience.
Carrying on from this thinking about my data collection methods and the ethics of ensuring you have interviewed various different people with different experiences and backgrounds so to ensure fair results.

When do we stop colouring outside the box?

'one of the biggest misconceptions is that you don't like to learn because you don't like to learn in school' (Soko,O. 2020)

But my question is how can we change the way we learn in schools so learning can be accessable and enjoyable to all? There is not one way of learning that is right for all but how do we create am environment so that everyone loves to learn?

This podcast with Ovie Soko on Elizabeth Day's 'How To Fail' is a really lovely and inspirational listen.
I only knew Ovie as a TV personality from the show Love Island but he is much more than what meets the eye. He talks about some very important topical issues in this honest and open podcast.

Questioning my Questions- Skype Wednesday 23rd September 9pm

On this Skype we all shared a little something we are looking at in our module or something we are figuring out. For me it was looking beyond written sources for my literature review and research in the area of embodied learning.

The topic of questions was discussed, questioning your questions and your assumptions. I started to think about the questions I'm asking the internet...'what is embodied learning in primary education and why is it useful?' 'How much dance is in the PE curriculum?' And so on.... I am now questioning theses questions. All of my questions are actively looking for the positives of this area of learning. I now need to question why the education is the static system that it is? How did these come about? What are the positives of this formal type of curriculum delivery?

Welcome back Skype Friday Sept 11th

What a year 2020 has been and I feel lucky to be have module 2 of the BAPP programme to keep focused on into 2021. While our industry finds its feet in this challenging world it is nice to have something definite to work towards.
For those who missed this Skype we spoke about the importance of reading ad 're reading the handbook, mapping your practice and attending Skype sessions as much as we can among many other things. I found it very useful to go through the unihub page again and remind me of where all the useful tools and resources are.
Module ones starting I remember feeling totally overwhelmed to begin with but I promise it will get easier and everything will fall into place! Something I am going to focus on for module 2 is to really stick to my timetable of study and not procrastinate, get writing!!!!!
I'm interested to explore the field of education as I am working in a primary school as a TA and dance teacher. I am enjoying researching literature and professionals in the field of arts and education and looking forward to seeing where this takes me. This week I taught a French lesson as the specialist teacher was unwell. It involved me using dance in the lesson-ballet and it's french terminology as well as doing some french traditional dancing to a gavotte. Not to mention dancing hymns for our Wednesday morning singing assembly! Now that the children are not permitted to sing we are moving to the hymns instead. Necessity is the mother of invention as they say and this really worked a treat! Who knows what is in store for this week.....
